Camden Town Hotel

Overview:

This project was a design challenge focused on developing a luxury hotel on a tight, awkwardly shaped site in Camden Town (north London). The most difficult challenges to overcome were: the site’s size and shape, addressing the canal to the north, creating main and service entrances with limited road access, and addressing the small building at the corner of the two streets.

I worked with fellow classmate Samuel Stewart on the project, and together we developed the plans and elevations for the hotel. To respect the heritage of Camdentown, we decided to apply a neo-Gothic style similar to nearby landmarks, like St. Pancras Station and the Great Clock of Westminster (Big Ben). Our goal was to try and create another landmark, something that could develop local pride within the neighborhood, which has been the victim of development of bland, minimal construction.

I took the initiative to explore a new medium, using digital rendering to create elevations and perspectives. This was my first attempt at using a digital oil painting style, which I used on the perspectives. We developed the model in Revit and created the renderings in ProCreate. Sam focused on rendering the floor plans, axonometric view, and section, and together we created a complete and consistent presentation.
